Surge protection / isolating spark gaps
Pipeline Management Solution
A long service life and high system availability are vital for the cost-effective operation of pipelines. The sensitive insulation of pipeline flanges needs to be protected from surge voltages to a high degree: such surges are often caused by lightning. The insulation of pipe transition points needed for regular operation has to be guaranteed, even during thunderstorms.
The isolating spark gaps of Phoenix Contact safely discharge these surge voltages and ensure longer maintenance intervals – ensuring the smooth operation of the pipeline. Any surge voltage occurring is transmitted with low resistance via the isolating spark gaps which ensures lightning protection equipotential bonding. Thanks to the highest possible lightning current carrying capacity (class H in accordance with IEC 52561-3), even large lightning currents are safely discharged to ground via a defined path.
Highlights:
Maximum protection, thanks to the highest possible lightning current carrying capacity (class H)
Durable in extreme conditions, thanks to excellent corrosion resistance
Optimum protection, response voltages tailored to insulation kits for flanges
Versatile, thanks to internationally recognized approvals in the hazardous area
Longer maintenance intervals thanks to less wear of the pipe flange seals
Longer operating time and less plant downtime
Safe plant operation due to increased pipeline protection
Solutions for protection against surge voltages caused by lightning strikes
Isolating spark gaps protecting the pipeline’s pipe flange seals assure a longer service life
